Roliana Virtual Community Takes its Avatars into Real Life

The year-old online community, Roliana, holds a competition for best real life costume emulating the user’s online avatar.

The year-old British-based company is teaming up with Moon Costumes and Sumo Urban Lounge Gear to allow online users to create real-life outfits that replicate their avatars’ costume. As part of Roliana’s first birthday celebration the company is holding a competition for users who can create the best real-life outfit emulating their online avatar.
Roliana’s shops offer 5,000 items such as virtual clothes, shoes, hats, and weapons. Roliana’s online selves participate in forums and play games where they earn currency which can be spent on virtual items in the site’s numerous shops.
The community has shown explosive growth both in members and in clothes and items available for the avatars. Although Roliana is celebrating its first birthday this month, it has already signed up 45,000 members and the forums have received more than 3.5 million messages.
For the competition winners, Sumo Urban Lounge Gear (http://www.sumolounge.com) is providing an Omni Sumo bean bag. Moon Costumes (http://www.mooncostumes.com) is also supplying prizes. Moon Costumes provides custom fancy dress outfits, name brand costumes, wigs, cosplay, and party supplies to the world.
